Ghost Image Failing on Panasonic Toughbook CF53

I need a solution

I am trying to create a Ghost Image on my new Panasonic Toughbook CF53 laptops using Symantic Ghost 2.5 (Ghost Cast Server 11.5.1), and can create the image, but when I load that image on a new and exact model Toughbook, then try to boot that Toughbook, I get a "Disk Read Error Occurred". Been doing it this same way on Dell laptops with no problems. Anyone know of anything special that I need to do with these Toughbook laptops in either creating the image, or loading it?

I need a solution

Just got the new GSS 3.0 setup and ready to go. Little bit of a learning curve, but not to bad so far. HOWEVER, when I create a Distrubute Disk Image task and I want to deploy it to a group of worsktations and do a mulitcast, the option is greyed out, why? What option am I missing that needs to be enabled or re-configured? I am not seeing an easy way to set the automation pre-boot enviroment to a Windows PE that I have setup and configured already, is that something I am missing? Please help!

Thanks

Brad

Hi,

I'm using a fully licensed Ghost 3.0. I followed the video to create a backup of a machine. Now the client has an automation partition, it boots to the partition and connects the the ghost server.. I see mention of updating configuration followed by a client disconnected from server. the console then shows the above error. does the automation client store a log wehre the error can be seen... any ideas what might be causing this error. Funny thing is this did not happrn on the beta!

Hello:

I am attempting to deploy a Window 8.1 image created with GSS 3.0 (local). This image is being cloned onto the exact same type of computer a Dell XPS 13. However the following error message appears and the clone aborts:

Unable to locate enough contiguous free space to load run.
Increase the destination partition size or
run Ghost with -NTEXACT switch.

I'm trying to figure out to include the -NTEXACT command line switch using the new Ghost Book Disk Creator. I've run through the process of creating bot disk several times and never see the option to add command line switches. Am I missing soemthing obvious here?

Thanks,

I can't seem to create a boot disk using GSS 2.51 for the Intel 1217-V NIC. Intel doesn't make a Vista32 driver for that card. I tried editing the inf file according to an earlier post for the PRO1000 card but that didn't work either. Any suggestions?

GSS 3.0 - Error with DA Agent

I need a solution

When trying to deploy the automation partition out to workstations and get them ready for an image re-deploy. I keep running into this error on random workstations when booting into the automation partition. (see attached picture)

Dagent.exe –application error

The instruction at 0x00b1f83e referenced memory at 0x010082af. The memory could not be written.

Click on OK to terminate the program.

You have to click OK and then exit out of all of the dos box windows in order to have the workstation boot back into production mode. I am seeing this more and more and it messes up the entire job when trying to deploy a image and run a configuration task after it.

How can I slove this to boot up in automation without it being a problem?

GSS 3.0 unable to Multicast with Ghost Server

I need a solution

When creating an image job and using the Ghost Multicast option using the Ghostsrv.exe (Not just using the Ghost32.exe for a multicast) it will crash and not complete the job. For some reason the client seems to be not accepting the connection to the Ghost server to start the process. You can see the two screen shot attached and the error message that occurs (one for the server end and the other for client):

Application Error 33000

Peer/Ghostcasting connection Terminated

If this problem persists, contact Symantec Technical Support

at http://www.symantec.com/techsupp/

Has anybody else seen this happen when trying to use the ghost multicast or found a workaround as to how to fix it so you can use Ghost Multicast?

I have two computers setup on a P2P network via a switch. They do not have internet conection, this is because they are just test PCs to try out this product. I have remotely installed the agent to my client PC. On the console the PC shows up as not active. How do I get it to be active? I've researched and have found nothing.

I need a solution

I have installed GSS 3.0 on windows server 2008 x64 and during Distribution Disk Image task clients fails with status of "Unable to boot to automation". When I modify the task Automation pre-boot environment is set to Default Automation (Auto-select) and the advance button is grey'd out. I then checked pre-boot operating systems install on server and see the following Pre-boot OS

  • LinuxPE X86
  • LinusPE X64
  • WinPE 5X X86 (Status=Installed)
  • WinPE 5X X64 (Status=Installed)

None of the pre-boot os environments listed above appear in the Automation pre-boot environment option box in the Distribution Disk Image task. I am not sure how to select WInPE 5X if it does not appear in the drop down as an option.

William

Hi,

I'm following the procedure on creating a syspreped image  using Ghost 3.0 It keeps failing  on the transfer of the sysprep file. I have it set for Windows7 enterprise x64. On the client I can see the start of the creation of the unattended.xml file but then it fails leaving a 0byte file and then a reschedule on the server side. Can anyone suggest what might be the issue? The machine is a domain machine. and the account has the required priviledges. this seems to happen on a configuration change also eg changing the machine name. I can post the section of the log file if it will help?

Problème boot PXE GHOST carte reseau USB, Bloque sur le starting PC DOS

I need a solution

Bonjour,

merci d'avance

Cannot create automatic network boot

I need a solution

Hi!
I have to reinstall more than 50 PC, so i thought i can do it with a script, just like a recovery partition (which i've already done https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.HOWTO42277.html). I thought it will work, but cannot create the network boot ghost, becouse it says the "WIM file for this configuration of Windows PE is invalid". I made the recovery partition already, thought i ghost it and then just like above ghost it back from the network. When it asks for the additional files i import 3 to the "image" directory. Then the script looks like this:

" x:

cd \image

DISKPART /s diskpart.txt

cd ..

 cd \ghost

rem --- This will create the primary OS drive configuration

 ghost32.exe /setosdrives /blind>>x:\ghost\startlog.txt

 ghost32.exe -clone,mode=prestore,src=x:\image\image.gho:1,dst=1:1 -quiet -sure
ghost32.exe -clone,mode=prestore,src=x:\image\image.gho:2,dst=1:2 -quiet -sure
ghost32.exe -clone,mode=prestore,src=x:\image\image.gho:3,dst=1:3 -quiet -sure
cd..
cd \image
DISKPART /s diskpart2.txt"

diskpart.txt :

"SELECT DISK 0
CLEAN
create partition primary size=100
create partition primary size=50000
create partition primary
exit"

diskpart2.txt :

"select disk 0
 select partition 1
 active
 exit"

Any ideas? (Yes, i know this is messy, but I just experementing. The idea: i've got one image on the network, and with a simple network boot (no additional imputs) i can make all three (or more, doesn't really matter) partition, and ghost the same OS onto them. In a room approx i have to reinstall 30 PC-s, and this is a lot easier than cloning them, becouse the image can stay on the server in case of need.

I need to create a custom sysprep answer file for deploying an image. I want to add the copyprofile=true entry.

I would like to take the GSS3 default answer file that is used, make a copy of it and add the info we need. Where is the default answer file stored on the ghost server? I am looking for the Windows 7 Profesional X64 Sysprep answer file.

Thanks

GSS 3.0 SQL installation issues SOLVED

I do not need a solution (just sharing information)

Lets start off with a little background. I've been working with GSS 3.0 since Beta 1 and have ALWAYS had problems on the install.  Everything worked except for SQL.  In order to get SQL to properly work i needed to download it from Microsoft and then install it separately and then it worked properly.

When working with another piece of software that installed it's own database it came to me that i may be having the same problem with GSS that i had with that software.  The software would fail to install it's own SQL because it created a user and password that did not meet our DOMAIN security settings (we need a 14 character password).  Luckily this software documented that and that allowed me to figure out a way around it. GSS not so much.

In order to get around the password policy i had to unjoin the computer from the domain, install the software and re-join the computer.

So i thought i'd do this with GSS.

Guess what, it worked perfectly.  No issues, no errors, everything worked perfectly fine.  Joined the computer back to the domain and all still seems to be well.

I hope this helps people who have been having installation issues.  We should not have to work around solutions for a paid product that's supposed to be and enterprise piece of software.

On a separate note, to Symantec support people - when choosing the "operating system on which product is running" you may want to update that a little bit.  Windows 2012 has been out for a while let alone 2012r2 and in case you didnt know 2003 is EOL very soon so you could probably remove that and Windows XP from the list of where the software is running because people really shouldn't be using it for much longer.

Ghost Solution Suite 3.0 Across Multiple locations - Recommendation Requested

I need a solution

We want to establish the best practice regarding deploying Ghost Solution Suite across multiple locations with relatively slow network links between them.

Lets say that you have a corporate office that has computers to image locally but is also responsible for imaging computers at several remote sites.  These remote sites have links that are adequate for management traffic, but would not be optimal for streaming entire system image files across.

You have the server, database, and file shares with all of your image files located in the corporate office.  What is the best way to have duplicate copies of the image files local at the sites so that you can initiate the image process for all the sites from a central console, but specify that the image for each system will come from a local storage repository or ghost server.

1. Is this possible?  If so, is there a doc anywhere on how to configure it this way?

2. If it is possible, does it include an automated function to deliver the image file 1 time when it is created to the remote sites, or would you have to manually copy the image file to each of these servers or set up some sort of file synchronization tool?

Thanks very much in advance for your insight.

Why is my AClient not installing during a Windows 7 Scripted Install in GSS 3.0?

I need a solution

Dear All,

I have set up a Windows 7 32-bit Scripted Install task within GSS 3.0 according to the How-To process:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QaRm-wBw4Oo&featur...

and I have applied it to a VM machine. However, the AClient is not installed and the build process stalls at this point.

I have not strayed from the path and made no changes at all to the process. I have, however, created an Unattend.xml (as the video says) from the Unattend_Vista.xml that is supplied with GSS 3.0 (adding in Product Key and Language/Locale elements) and I am wondering if this is the issue, but I cannot see what is wrong.

Does anyone know what I might be doing wrong?

Kindest regards,

QuietLeni

Symantec Ghost Solution 3 - Install Automation Partition - Could not create...

I need a solution

When I select in the Ghost Solution Suite Console 3 on a computer (Dagent installed) and want to install the Automation Partition (right click --> Advanced --> install Automation Partition..-->Automation Partition Properties - Preboot OS Windows 64bit --> OK) i receive the following error: "Could not create a configuration in BootWorks Disk Creator".

WinPE5 is installed and works.

When i create an automation installer file through the Boot Disk Creator (Tools --> Boot Disk Creator --> Create Partition Installer --> Installer Package....) it works. Also that file can be launched on the client (copied via USB drive) and the partition will be created and can be used.

Only i don't want to do this at every client.

I don't want to use PXE (not yet) because i have another PXE server running for WDS/MDT.
